"The Green Parrot, Social & Environment Award" by Dainik Bhaskar
Dr. B. Lal Institute of Biotechnology received "The Green Parrot, Social & Environment Award" by Dainik Bhaskar for its consistent contributions towards "Indigenous Water Treatment" & belief in Zero Waste concept.
The whole idea behind the treatment technology is of Dr. Sudipti Arora Gupta, working as a Research Scientist. She did her PhD from IIT Roorkee in a DST project on this technology and is working on waste management and promotion of wastewater treatment since 2012.
A twin vermifiltration has been setup at the campus of Dr. B. Lal Institute of Biotechnology for the treatment of institutional domestic and institutional clinical wastewater. This vermifiltration plant has the capacity to treat 10,000 liters of wastewater per day utilizing common earthworms in a suitable filter bed, to treat the organic matter and remove pathogens from the sewage for gardening purposes, as per the standards of irrigation water prescribed by WHO (2008).
